I make lots of music. I release that music in six-month instalments; dropping parcels of new music twice a year. If you subscribe, you get access to all of that music - past, present, and future.
I think standard streaming platforms are generally wildly exploitative of musicians. So, I only have each of my parcels on there for six months. Then, it's deleted and replaced by new music. As a result, subscribing is one of the only ways to have ready access to all of my music to date.
This isn't a matter of earning money for me, though. I've made sure you can always stream all of my stuff for free from Bandcamp, if you can't afford a subscription. For me, popular streaming platforms (like most of the music industry) are premised on the idea that musicians must engage in exploitative practices in order to be able to meaningfully and sustainably make music.
Is that idea true? I'm honestly not sure. But, I don't want it to be true. So, I won't participate in it.
For now, I can afford to be an obscure but prolific musician. I can make my music without entering into exploitative relationships. But, it's not easy. So, if you can afford to support that, I'd welcome your subscription. If not, all good. The money isn't important. But, the support is always invaluable.
